What is an AEP?

An ESSA Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a University-trained professional who provides exercise as a treatment strategy in physical rehabilitation and as a preventative strategy for disease prevention, to assist people in returning to previous activities or physical fitness, and as part of establishing and sustaining functional independence. Accredited Exercise Physiologists specialise in exercise prescription and improving the health of special populations. These are people with chronic and complex medical conditions such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and arthritis. They can also help patients with PCOS, osteoporosis and depression, as well as people who have had a stroke.

They do this through providing individualised programs to meet their needs and goals through gyms, home based exercises and other activities.
