"For me its not about my weight. The journey that brought me here was survival and long term health. My journey has been to learn how to cope after being diagnosed and treated for thyroid cancer and the after affects of having a total thyroidectomy, as well as to learn how this affects my metabolism, and how I was putting in a lot of effort and not seeing any results. My time with Kate has been excellent. It has taken time, effort, patience and discipline. Kate persisted with sensible eating plans, helping me change little things that are making a big difference. Pnina - one of our most recent success stories!


 "I must say that from my perspective, it's wonderful to have people who are so knowledgable and supportive. I've discovered that I enjoy pushing myself, but with the crunchy knees and crappy foot, if it wasn't for Kate and Christine, I would have given up by now. I so seriously have a vested interest to become as healthy as I can and by sticking with the exercises it has other advantages that I'm starting to discover. There's nothing like a good challenge! So my thanks to both Kate and Christine for helping me to this point, and I'm determined to keep coming along and learning from them!"

In 6 months, Pnina has reduced her HbA1c from 7.7% to 6.3%, and her clothes have dropped from a size 18-20 to size 14-16 - that's three dress sizes! She continues to walk everyday, but now does resistance training EVERY SECOND DAY as well! She has built up to using 8kg dumbells for most of her exercises - all of which she does from the comfort of her own home. She has even progressed from doing pushups against the wall, to the floor! Pnina still comes to see Kate every 6 weeks at this stage, and will continue to do so until she has achieved all her goals!

Bill joined The Glucose Club  Silver program and in 6 months his results are amazing. He has dramatically improved his health, his glucose levels went from the diabetic range to the normal range. He also saw drops in his blood pressure, cholesterol and body weight.

This is what Bill had to say!

"Many years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and apart from relying on medication did not manage the problem. Early this year I made the decision to reduce my weight and monitor my diabetes with a view to eliminating or reducing the medication, making dietary changes to a healthier eating regime and reducing alcohol intake. After getting started on this program I replied to our Health Insurance Provider requesting volunteers to participate in a 6 month research program in diabetes control, run by The Glucose Club. In this time I have seen an amazing turn around in my health and physical appearance.

In the past I have tried to stick to things before but haven't been able to. I think the biggest difference was the education I received allowed me to have more control over my own situation, by making better choices. Also the support given by the Glucose Club and the fact that they kept me accountable (by getting me to email them each week my food and activity diary) has helped me to remain motivated and so has contributed to the substantial weight loss I have achieved. In particular I have found the weekly telephone chat helpful to remain committed to my quest."

Louise joined The Glucose Club and lost 37 kg in 6 months. Prior to this her glucose regulation was out of control and she had insulin resistance. Now her glucose levels are normal and her insulin sensitivity has increased!!!

 

"I have to thank you for all the help you have given me – don’t know what would have happened if I had not met you – probably be a “pill junkie”. I am still taking the tablets prescribed but have not increased dosage since the initial consult over 12 months ago. Finally got my treadmill and exercise bike with me and on to my “resistance training” exercise routine. Managing my sugar level and no more 4 hour sleeps at night. I am “normal” now with my sleep – can’t remember what it felt like with only 4 hours (or less) sleeps at night.  I feel much healthier these days and haven’t felt this good in years."

Tara

Gaining control over our health - our glucose levels, blood pressure and loosing weight - can sometimes feel like climbing a mountain. How do you climb a mountain? One step after the other according to Tara!

Tara is one our Glucose Club members who came to us saying she needed help to climb a mountain - and she was serious!! She climbed to base camp of Mt Everest for charity and we trained together for 5 months before the big week. Here are a few of her photos of her successful trip with her Glucose club T-Shirt! Tara's comments "Had an amazing time and the all training paid off thanks to you!" and "Thanks again for all your support this year. I wouldn't have done it without you!"
